Upgrade an EDC Version

This article describes how to upgrade an EDC version and what happens when you upgrade.

How to Update your EDC settings for the Saturn EDC upgrade

Before starting the upgrade, you need to confirm your EDC Connector settings. Technical users created before 20.05.2026 are not compatible with Saturn EDC and will cause errors during the upgrade.

Follow these steps below to prepare your environment:

If your onboarding happened after 20.05.2026, you can skip ahead to step 4 and start the upgrade.

Step 1: Create a new technical user

In the Cofinity-X Portal, navigate to Technical Setup -> Technical User Management.

Create a new technical user specifically for EDC with Identity Wallet Management User Role.

Once the user is created (may take up to 5 mins), copy and save the following values:

  • OAuth Client ID

  • OAuth Client Secret

  • OAuth Token URL

Step 2: Get prepared the DIM URL from the Cofinity-X Portal

Navigate to: Technical Setup -> Connector Registration -> Open the Connector Configuration Details

Copy the value for dcp.sts.dim.url* for the next step.

Step 3: Update your EDC settings

  1. Go to Edit EDC.

2. Replace the existing values in the corresponding fields with the OAuth Client ID, OAuth Client Secret, OAuth Token URL, and DIM URL you copied in Step 1 and 2.

Step 4: Start the upgrade

  1. Click on the EDC you want to upgrade to open the component details

  2. Scroll to the Version:

  3. Consent the you have updated the OAuth Client ID, OAuth Client Secret, OAuth Token URL and DIM URL and click on Upgrade EDC.

During the update, the EDC may temporarily display an "Error" state. This is expected behavior — the EDC will return to the "OK" state within a few minutes.
If the "Error" state persists for a significantly longer time, please contact our Customer Support at [email protected].

What happens after the upgrade?

Once the EDC has an "OK" status after the upgrade, the following things automatically happen to existing assets, policies and contracts:

  1. Assets remain the same.

  2. A new Saturn Access Policy is created, with the suffix aps.

  3. The existing Usage Policy gets upgraded to a Saturn version.

  4. Contract definitions are automatically updated with the new access policy created.

  5. Any existing contract negotiations by the data consumer on that asset can still be used. The contract doesn't have to be re-negotiated after a data provider EDC is upgraded.
