BMW uses a Push method - you actively send your certificate directly to BMW. You will receive a status update confirming whether BMW accepted or rejected your certificate.
How long does this take? Expect 2–3 business days total, with about 30 minutes of actual work. Most of the time is waiting.
Step 1 - Onboard to the Cofinity-X Portal
If you haven't already, complete your company onboarding to the Cofinity-X Portal and select Dataspace OS as your certificate management solution.
Already done? Move to Step 2.
Step 2 - Request your Data Governance Credentials
You need these credentials before you can use Certificate Management.
Step 3 - Retrieve your BPNA from Cofinity-X Portal

It may take up to 2 business days for your BPNA appear in the system. In case of any issued with BPNA retrieval, please write an email to [email protected]
Step 4 - Sign in to Dataspace OS
Once your BPNA is ready, sign in to Dataspace OS.
Step 5 - Register your EDC
In Dataspace OS, go to Dataspace Components
Select your EDC component
Scroll down to EDC Registration
Check the status - it should show Registered
If it shows "Not Registered": Click Register and confirm.
Step 6 - Upload your certificate
Have your certificate ready as a PDF file (max 1.5 MB), along with these details from the document: Certificate Type, Version, Issuer, Registration Number, and Validity dates.
In Dataspace OS Certificate Management, click Add Certificate
Upload the PDF
Fill in the required fields:

4. Click Next Step
5. Enter the BPNA for the site this certificate applies to, add a location name, and click Add Entry
6. Click Next Step, review the details, then click Add the Certificate
Step 7 - Send your certificate to BMW
A Share certificate with partner popup will appear after the Step 6.
In the sharing settings:
Click Share Certificate

Step 8 - Check if BMW accepted your certificate
With the Push method you can see exactly what happened. BMW will review your certificate and update the status.
To check:
In Certificate Management, find your certificate and click on Action -> View certificate
Look at the status:
Status | What it means |
Pending | BMW has received it and is reviewing |
Accepted | BMW has approved your certificate |
Rejected | BMW found an issue - see the reason below |
Failed | A technical error occurred - contact [email protected] |
If the status is Rejected:
Click on the certificate to expand the details
Read the rejection reason provided by BMW
Click Update to correct the issue
Re-send the certificate
You're done
Once the status shows Accepted, BMW has your certificate. No further action is needed.
Something not working?
Run through this checklist:
EDC status is Registered
Certificate is a PDF and under 1.5 MB
All mandatory fields are filled in
You entered the BPNA (not a BPNS) when linking the certificate to the site
You selected Push as the sharing method
BMW appears in the partner drop-down
If everything looks correct, contact [email protected] and include:
Your company's BPNL
The certificate type
The step where you're stuck
A screenshot of any error or the current status
