Important Notes and Limitations

Updated today

This article explains the key limitations and conditions that apply when a legal entity is onboarded (managed partner) under a managing participant.

What a managed partner can and cannot do

A managed partner is represented by another active company in the data space for supported company data management.

This currently includes:

  • BPNL

  • BPNS

  • BPNA

This setup only covers representation for supported company data management.

No own wallet, portal access, or EDC

A managed partner:

  • does not receive its own wallet

  • does not receive ongoing portal access

  • does not need its own EDC

This setup is intended for legal entities that want to participate under centralized management instead of full independent onboarding.

Scope of representation

Being managed by another company does not transfer all participation capabilities to the managing participant.

At this time, it only means that the managing participant can represent the legal entity and maintain its supported company data.

The topic of transferring data while impersonating a sub-legal entity is still being worked on within the Catena-X Association.

Cost implications

Onboarding a legal entity under a managing participant does not incur costs.

However, if the Managed by another company field is left empty during onboarding, the company will be onboarded as a regular participant.

In that case, the company receives its own wallet and portal access, which does incur costs.

Before using this setup

Before choosing this model, make sure that:

  • the managing participant is already active in the data space

  • the legal entity to be managed agrees to this setup

  • both sides have aligned on which company will act as the managing participant

  • the managing participant has defined who is responsible for reviewing and processing incoming requests

Ending a managed relationship

A managed relationship cannot currently be ended directly in the portal.
